Rufus, also known as the Universal USB Installer, is a popular tool used to create and manage bootable USB drives for various operating systems, including Windows 10. If you’re looking to install Windows 11 from an ISO file, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it with Rufus:

- Rufus tool installed and configured on your computer
- The Windows 11 ISO file downloaded for installation
Step 1: Enable USB Drive as a boot device in Windows 10
- On the Windows 10 desktop, click on «Start» > «Settings» (or press the Windows key + I).
- Click on «System».
- Click on «Advanced system settings» from the left-hand menu.
- In the System Protection window, make sure that the USB drives are listed and enabled as a boot device.
Step 2: Create a Bootable USB Drive with Rufus
- Open Rufus and select the Windows 10 ISO file you downloaded earlier.
- Choose a blank USB drive as the destination by clicking on the «Root» tab and selecting it from the dropdown list.
- Set the USB drive size to match your available space, leaving some room for installation files.
- Click on the «Create» button to start creating the bootable USB drive.
Step 3: Insert the USB Drive into Your Computer
- Connect your blank USB drive to your computer and insert it into a free USB port.
- Make sure the drive is recognized by Windows as a boot device.
Step 4: Boot from the USB Drive in Windows 10
- Restart your computer and enter it into safe mode (press F8 repeatedly during startup).
- Once the computer boots, select the Rufus-created installation media as the boot device.
- Click on «Start» > «Shut down» to shut down the computer completely.
Step 5: Install Windows 11
- The installation process will begin, and you’ll be prompted to enter your product key or use a valid activation code.
- Follow the wizard to complete the installation process, which should take about an hour depending on your internet connection speed.
Once the installation is complete, reboot your computer again to verify that Windows 11 has been installed successfully.
Tips:
- Make sure your USB drive is not full before creating it with Rufus.
- Be cautious when using Rufus, as incorrect usage can result in data loss or corruption of your computer’s original operating system.
- After installing Windows 11, keep in mind that you may need to reinstall drivers and software after the initial installation.
By following these steps, you should be able to successfully install Windows 11 on a blank USB drive using Rufus.
